Patriarchal and colonial histories mean that every facet of a woman’s life can be imprisoned. To understand the depths of the patriarchal mindset and its destructive impacts on the body and mind, artist Amrita Sur explores ways to question conformity, and provoke the need for a shift in thinking.
Amrita Sur is an emerging photographer who lives in Melbourne. She graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Arts in Photography in 2018, and is currently pursuing Honours. Her work draws from personal narratives of trauma, cultural differences, family history, diaspora and gender inequality.
