Curators: Fiona Sweet and Hannah Wright
Born in 1933 in the UK, John Street started his photographic career as an apprentice in 1958 with Neil Nimmo in London, within a few years he was photographing Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton. His agent David Puttnam directed him into still life and food photography where he became an expert. He emigrated to Australia in 1972 and began his Australian advertising career which spanned 27 years. Street has received many international awards and held over 10 solo exhibitions. This exhibition showcases his food photography from the 1970s and 80s in Australia with a unique selection of his works from the Peter Russell-Clarke Cookbooks. The collaboration with Russell-Clarke was a long and fruitful one – Russell-Clarke did all the food and Street made it dance.
