Since ancient times, dolls have been part of human play: both inanimate and animate, lifeless and lifelike. Notions of expression define human communication – failure to receive any response from faces unsettles our basic instincts. These abandoned dolls were photographed in traditional portrait style to focus on their imagined personalities.
BIOGRAPHY
Leonie Brannighan is a Melbourne-based artist whose work explores transition, loss and regeneration involving a personal relationship. Through time and experience, she seeks to question what lies beneath the surface. Brannighan completed a Bachelor of Photography in 2014, has received awards from CCP and AIPP, and was a Bowness Prize finalist in 2013.
