Ballarat based art collective the Pitcha Makin Fellas came together to find a way to co-operatively create a strong and necessary presence for themselves, their community and their history, in a place and time when Aboriginal people are still kept away from the centre of things.
Current members include Peter-Shane Rotumah and Ted Laxton of the Gunditjmara mob, and Adrian Rigney of the Wotjobaluk/ Ngarrindjeri mob. Their work has been exhibited and collected by important institutions including the National Gallery of Victoria, and the United Nations in Geneva.
In 2019 the Pitcha Makin Fellas will premiere a major new exhibition at the Ballarat International Foto Biennale. With this work the Fellas are coming right into the center of town – look out!
